What is a CFSP?

CFSP stands for Competent Fire Safety Practitioner. They’re responsible for the endorsements and assessments required by NSW EP&A Act 2000 to claim a building’s fire systems are designed and Installed safe for use.

In particular, a CFSP is responsible for:

• Endorsing plans and specifications for relevant fire safety systems include:-​​​

​1. A hydraulic fire safety system;
   1.1. A fire hydrant system;
   1.2. A fire hose reel system;
   1.3. A sprinkler system (including wall-wetting sprinkler or drencher system);
   1.4. Any type of automatic fire suppression system of a hydraulic nature.
2. A fire detection and alarm system; or
3. A mechanical ducted smoke control system.

• assessing the ongoing performance of essential fire safety measures in a building and endorsing the annual fire safety statement.

Persons recognised to be CFSP include:

​a) a class of persons who have undergone particular training or assessment carried out by a specified professional organisation an industry organisation, such as Australia’s Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme, or
 
(b) a persons holding a specified category of certificate of accreditation under the Building Professionals Act 2005.
